Cards Featuring Childs Art
Make these easy cards that make your child's paintings look like a masterpiece.
Creating the Art
Supplies:
- Card Stock Paper (1 sheet = 2 cards)
- Printer Paper
- Rotary Paper Cutter or X-Acto Knife
- Childs Paint
- Plate
- Cup of water
- Paint Brushes (or anything a child can paint with like Q-tips and Cotton balls)
- Drop Cloth (you can get this in the paint section of a hardware store. I highly recommend this for toddler craft time!!!)
- Childs craft smock or bib
- Glue
- Pen
- Card Envelopes
Lay the drop cloth over a table. Put out craft supplies for child to pick from. Put some paint on a plate. For 1-2 year olds I recommend only using a couple of colors as they really love to completely mix them together making everything brown. Have at least 2 paint brushes so you can clean one off in the cup of water when the child wants to switch colors. This help prevent them from dipping one color into another. Have child paint on printer paper. Lay finished Paintings off to the side to dry.
Constructing the Card
After the paint has dried, I wait until the next day, cut the paintings
so you have eight even pieces. I do this with a few of the paintings so I can pick the best looking art pieces for the cards. You'll have left over paintings which you can do what you want with. Like hang on the fridge or frame. Next you will cut the cards. Take the card stock paper with longer edge facing you and cut them in half. Fold the cut paper in half. Open the card and in one of those half's you will be cutting out a rectangular section. Center it and make it around a quarter of an inch smaller then the art pieces. I honestly don't know the measurements. The rotary cutter I used really simplified that process for me. Use glue on the inside of the card around the cut out section. With art piece facing down, press it down on to glued area.
Write Your Special Message
Once glue is dried write on the cards. We made ours as Thank You cards from our 2.5 year old daughter.
