Cardboard Phone Holder (basic) for Sharing Work on Paper (RO/EN)

The aim of this project is to create a simple cardboard phone holder, to be used when streaming and you need to show what you're writing on paper, and having the writing be readable.

----This design is made with "no skills, no tools, no patience" in mind. Wobbly lines, imperfect cutting, rough shapes and no previous skills are all accounted for, and to a certain degree, beneficial. If this design was made with perfect precision, it wouldn't work as well, as the phone would just slip and the pillars would be wobbly.

----Don't worry about making this design perfect! Eyeballing everything is expected!

Scopul acestui proiect este sa creezi un suport de telefon din carton extrem de simplu, care sa poata fi folosit pentru a arata ce ai scris pe hartie (si sa fie citibil), fara sa il tii in mana.

---- Proiectul este gandit cu "fara indemanare, fara unelte, fara chef si rabdare" in minte. Taieturi strambe, forme din ochi si lipsa de orice fel de experienta cu carton sunt luate in considerare, si pana la un punct, chiar ajuta. Daca proiectul ar fi facut cu pricepere si precizie perfecta, nu ar functiona, pentru ca telefonul ar cadea din suport.

---- Nu iti face griji sa faci totul perfect. Ochiometric este masura de baza aici!

---- Urmareste pozele, spun o poveste mai buna decat textul!

---This came about as an idea while working as a volunteer for Magic, a non profit organization in Romania, where volunteer professors need to video call with kids who can use some help with various subjects. But usually writing those subjects on a computer is hard, and the video feed is rarely so good to be able to see from their selfie position the written words as well. So this gets the phone closer and in a stable position, and lets them (and the professors) show directly on paper their work. Universities have dedicated such devices that bring up a small top down view of a paper to the hall's screen, this is the same idea.

---Because it is aimed at that organization, this instructable will be both in Romanian and English.

--- Ideea a venit lucrand ca voluntar pentru Magic, o organizatie non-profit din Romania, unde voluntarii trebuie sa faca video call cu copii ca sa ii ajute la diverse materii. Nu poti sa pui copii sa scrie direct pe calculator, pentru ca este greu sau foarte greu (a se vedea matematica), si sa incerci sa folosesti camera cu care ii vezi pe ei este fara nici o sansa, hartiile sunt prea departe si nu se vad, si se mai si misca imaginea. Asa ca constructia asta tine telefonul intr o pozitie fixa, mai apropiata, ca sa poti vedea direct ce scrie, si ca profesor sa poti sa ii arati foaia ta clar. La facultati uneori exista unelte speciale pentru asta, care pun ce scrie profesorul pe o foaie pe un birou mic, pe ecranul mare al salii. Cam aceeasi idee si aici.

-Cardboard (any type, just not paper-thin), something to cut with (scissors, or any blade), and tape (any kind really)

-(RO) carton (orice fel, doar sa nu fie subtire ca o foaie), ceva cu care sa tai (foarfece, cutit, briceag, lama), si banda adeziva (orice fel)

You will need to cut 3 pieces of cardboard. The rough sizes are taken with an A4 piece of paper, as you can see in the photos. W marks the width, H marks the height. If unspecified, a dimension can simply be eyeballed.

The 2 larger ones will make the pillars, and the smaller one the gantry.

Vei taia 3 bucati de carton. Dimensiunile aproximative sunt marcate folosind o foaie A4, dupa cum se vede in fotografii. W marcheaza latimea unei foi A4, iar H marcheaza inaltimea unei foi A4. Daca nu are nici un marcaj, dimensiunea respectiva poate fi marcata ochiometric.

Cele doua bucati mari vor forma pilonii, iar cea mica va forma podul

The gantry is the professional term for what is here that bar that sits up high. There are a couple things to note here:

- Those lines represent taking a blunt object and pushing into the cardboard to create a line. Try not to go completely through the material! This is to mark out how the cardboard will fold, as without this marking folding it can be... with issues.

- The phone holes can and should be asymmetric (but in line across the markings)! One should be closer to the exterior, and the other closer to the interior. (without going over the markings) When marking them, use your phone as reference, to make them wide enough, but don't go completely overboard with the thickness. Here less is more.

- Tape it freely. As long as it doesn't cover the phone holes, use as much or as little you want, of any kind you want. For me electrical tape was the closest one. The only use for it is to hold those triangle shapes.

Sunt cateva lucruri de mentionat in acest set:

- Marcajele reprezinta linii facute cu un obiect ne ascutit care lasa o urma in carton fara sa il taie. Scopul este sa ramana o urma dreapta, pentru a putea indoi cartonul cu usurinta.

- Gaurile pentru telefeon ar trebui sa fie usor asimetrice (dar la acelasi nivel fata de marcaje). Una ar trebui sa fie mai aproape de exterior, cealalta mai departata, fara a trece peste marcajele anterioare. Este o idee buna sa folosesti telefonul ca sa iti dai seama de latime, dar ai grija sa nu faci gaurile prea late, pentru ca telefonul ar putea aluneca din suport.

- Banda adeziva o poti plasa la liber, cat timp nu acopera gaurile pentru telefon. Tot scopul ei este sa mentina acea forma triunghiulara.

You guessed it, these support that 'gantry', and are basically legs.

- As before, those middle markings are meant as blunt scratches, not complete cuts.

- The triangle holes should be a bit wider than the gantry, so use that for reference

- Here tape should go on the lower part of the legs (for all kinds of fancy things like material elasticity, accounting for tolerance, intended pressure for tight fit but not perfect, etc). Anywhere in the bottom half is fine. Try not to go too hard on the cardboard, as it should only bend at the mark. If you can aim for roughly around 90 degrees, that's perfect.

- Remember to put the gantry in before taping the legs, as that will be very hard to do otherwise.

Acestea sunt picioarele care sustin podul.

- Ca si inainte, marcajele sunt menite sa fie facute cu un obiect ne ascutit, ca sa zgarie si apese dar sa nu taie complet.

- Gaurile triunghiulare ar trebui sa fie usor mai late decat podul facut anterior, asa ca il poti folosi ca referinta.

- Aici banda adeziva ar trebui sa fie pe partea de jos a pilonilor (multe explicatii mecanice irelevante). Incearca sa nu tragi prea tare de carton, ar trebui sa se indoaie doar la mijloc pe marcaj. Ideal ar fi sa fie in jur de 90 de grade, dar ochiometric este suficient.

- Tine minte sa pui podul in gaurile pilonilor inainte de a pune banda adeziva pe ei, pentru ca altfel va fi mult mai greu dupa.

Well, you're done, but the thing is kinda shaky and unstable. That's normal. Cut small slices from the bottom bending corner of each pillar, until this issue is resolved. The fancy explanation is that the pillars should rely on the tip of the edges, not on the corner.

Take your time with the slices and go in small iterations!

Ai facut podul, dar este cam instabil. Este normal. Taie felii subtiri din partea de jos a pilonilor, din portiunea unde este indoitura, pana cand devine stabil. Explicatia mai complexa este ca pilonii ar trebui sa se sustina in varfurile acelor brate, nu pe indoitura.

Ia o incet cu taiatul aici, ideea este sa faci mai multe ajustari pana cand sta, nu sa iei mult deodata!

Well, depending on how you've placed your phone holes, the view might be too horizontal (aka it is looking straight down, not slightly ahead). The solution is to take off from the bottom of one of the slots.

-DO NOT take off from both slots! this will make the phone slip off later.

The second upgrade is to have a fancy side view, so you can look at more than just one piece of paper at the same time, or maybe bigger papers. I've made the angle be the same as the triangle holes, but feel free to guess this cut.

- Keep in mind to leave at least around a centimeter (or like half an inch) above the triangle slot!

- If the phone falls from the side view space, you can just pull the pillars closer together (hehe, yeah, you can adjust it like that too), and if it still falls, make the holes longer, so the phone can be properly grabbed by the cardboard.

In functie de cum ai pozitionat gaurile pentru telefon pe pod, se poate ca telefonul sa se uite drept in jos, in loc de usor inainte. Solutia este sa mai tai din partea de jos a uneia din gaurile de pe pod.

- NU LUA din ambele gauri, doar de pe o singura parte! altfel telefonul poate sa alunece dupa.

Al doilea upgrade este un set de gauri ca sa poti sa il pui si pe lateral, si sa se vada mai multe foi, sau foi mai mari. Unghiul la care am facut eu gaurile a fost paralel cu gaura pentru pod, dar esti binevenit sa incerci si alte unghiuri asemanatoare sau sa il modifici dupa pentru a ajunge la pozitia preferata.

- Tine minte sa lasi cel putin un centimetru deasupra gaurii triunghiulare, altfel se poate rupe cartonul.

- Daca telefonul are tendinta sa cada din pozitia sa de sus, poti sa tragi pilonii mai aproape unul de celalalt, sau sa faci gaura mai lunga, ca sa intre telefonul mai mult si sa nu mai pice.

I sure hope this helps someone! Let me know if you modify it or upgrade it in other ways, it would be cool to see people remix this.

It's fine if your initial try resulted in something uneven or too wobbly, look at it and figure out why that is, and re make it with that in mind. I myself made it twice, as my first pillars were too spread out, and the wide view slots were too close to the gantry, and they just broke the material so nothing kept its shape anymore. On the bright side, it takes 10 minutes to make one, and almost any cardboard will do (as long as it's not paper-thin), so it's a fun way to try recycle those boxes before throwing them away.

Sper ca acest proiect va ajuta pe cineva! Daca ai timp, lasa o nota aici cu modificari/alte upgrade uri pe care le ai facut, sau pur si simplu ca l-ai facut.

Daca prima incercare nu a iesit cum trebuie, pentru ca se balangane prea mult sau nu sta telefonul, este ok si de asteptat. Uitate cu atentie si da ti cu parerea de ce se intampla asta, si refa intregul proiect. Personal eu l-am facut de 2-3 ori, pentru ca prima versiune se tot miscau pilonii, pozitia de sus a telefonului tot punea camera sa se uite direct in carton in loc de pe masa... si in a doua am reusit sa fac gaurile prea apropiate si s-a rupt suportul pentru pod. De asta este conceput sa nu iti ia mai mult de vreo 10 minute o incercare.
