Carboard Ruber Band Glider

This is a CardBoard Glider plane that uses Bamboo shish-kebabs for a lightweight body. It can be thrown by hand, or you can use a rubber band to launch it! Adjusting the wing placement allows you to change the flight path of the plane. This plane can go about 100 feet!

For Distance: have the wings in the middle of the adjustment space

For Crazy-er Flights: have the wing all the way forward, or all the way back! You can adjust the tail too!

Supplies:

cardboard (2mm thick)

x3 10 inch bamboo shish kebabs

1 penny

paper-clip

masking tape

glue stick

rubber band (for launching)

Tools:

pliers (for bending a paper clip)

printer

scissors

pen/sharpie

ruler

Print out your template of the plane's cardboard sections, cut them out, and glue them to your sheet of cardboard. Be sure to orient the pieces so that the shish-kebabs can slide through (this will make sense as we put it together later.

Then Cut along the lines and you are ready for your next step!

Grab your 3 shish-kebab sticks and line up all three non-pointy ends. Then wrap a small piece of masking tape around the non pointy sides about one inch from the end. When doing this try to keep them in a triangle shape.

Now slide your cardboard wings onto the shish kebabs with the angled sides facing the rear of the plane. Now measure out 5 inches from the pointy ends of your shish-kebabs. Mark that place with a sharpie, then wrap 3 or 4 wraps of masking tape around this point. (it will help keep your wings in place)

Tip

It may help to mark the center of your wings using your ruler and a pen before you slide them on.

sliding the wing up or down along the shish kebabs allows you to change how the plane flies! If you like it in a specific spot, just put tape on the shaft in front and behind the wing. Same goes for the tail!

Now slide your tail fins on the same way that you slid your wings on. The bottom tail piece will slide through two the bottom two shish-kebabs, and the vertical tail fin will slide through the top shish-kebabs.

slide these far enough that you have about an inch of uncovered shish-kebab at the end. Then wrap a small piece at the end of the shish-kebabs to keep the tail in place.

Lastly tape the tail fin and bottom together for durability.

Now add your penny to the front of the plane with some more masking tape. It helps to slide the penny in between the shish-kebabs in order to hold it in place.

Its time to add your paper clip. It will be bent and added to the front to hook a rubber band on for launching.

Bend the top of one paper clip into a hook, either with your fingers or a pair of pliers.
