During the summer it is fun to have cookouts and outside gatherings, but those gatherings can hit a sour note when the bugs decide to join the party. Here is a great luminary idea that can add decoration to an outdoor get together while naturally keeping the bugs away.

Supplies

Here are the supplies I used to make my summer luminary

A glass - to hold everything

A lime

A lemon

Water

Essential Oil - I used lavendar, but cedarwood and lemon are also natural bug repellents

A floating candle

Cut Lemon and Lime

I started by cutting slices of lemon and lime.

To get the desired amount I cut 2 slices of lemon and 2 slices of lime for each luminary

Add Water and Oil

My next step was to add water to the glass I was using for my luminary. I filled the glass about 3/4 of the way full.

I then added my lavender essential oil to the water. For each luminary I add 10 drops of lavender oil and stirred the oil into the water.

Add Lemon and Lime

After adding the oil I added the slices of lemon and lime that I cut earlier and put it in the water.

It added a great effect since the limes sunk to the bottom and the lemons floated on top.

Add Candle

Once everything was in the water I added the floating candle to the top!

Finished

With the luminary finished I was able to set it outside and enjoy the evening bug free!

Enjoy!
