Box Culture Pencil Cases
Fold, bend, and shape your way into making some awesome pencil cases made out of empty cereal boxes!
Grab Your Materials
To make these upcycled boxes, you will need...
- empty cereal boxes
- scissors
- pencil
- X-acto knife
- tape
- a copy of a pencil box template
- scoring tool (bent paper clip / butter knife / bone folder)
Prep Template
First, print and cut out a copy of a pencil box template.
Prep Box
Next, cut out the front of an empty cereal box and lay it face down on your cutting mat. Place the template on top and use a pencil to trace around it. Then, cut out the pattern. I find it easy to use an X-acto knife for the curve areas on the pattern.
Once you've cut out the pattern, use your pencil and a ruler to trace out score lines along the edges of the pattern, where you will be folding into place.
Score Lines
Now using a bent paper clip, run it along the score lines right against the ruler to make it easier to fold.
Fold Into Place
Now, to make the box, fold the bottom into the inner section and tape in place. Then, fold in the sides and tape that down as well.
Close on Top
Finally, close the flap on top with a piece of velcro or a loop fastener. Here, I only put tape, because I didn't have any velcro, but this is more or less what you need to do as the final step.
Complete!
Now, they're ready to store all of your pens and pencils for work, school, and play!
