Birdhouse Project

After just a quick read, you'll be ready to build a simple and cheap octagonal birdhouse that may become the home of a lucky bird!

You do not have to follow these directions exactly. It's fine to just take inspiration!

• Thin wood of any kind
• Table saw
• Drill + hole drill bit
• Band saw (alternative to drill)

Before cutting the wood, make these measurements:

• Eight rectangles, 7 inches long and 3.5 inches wide
• Eight triangles, 4 inches long and 3.5 inches wide
• An octagon, with each side being 3.5 inches wide

After making your measurements, cut the pieces out with a saw. Sand if necessary.

Once all the parts are cut out, glue each wall piece on each side of the octagon base with wood glue. Hot glue works fine too, but wood glue is recommended.

To make the entrance of the bird house, simply drill a hole with a circumference of 2.5 inches with a drill. Alternatively, you can manually cut the hole with a band saw.

Once the entrance is done, stick the last piece of the wall on. Then, add a perch if you would like. I didn't add it until I was nearly done, so it isn't pictured here.

For the roof, just stick the triangular pieces on top the walls and set them at an angle you think would fit best.

Once you finish, paint it if you'd like and prop it on a tree!
