Bird Food and Water Station
Materials Needed To Build This Station
- Waterbottle
- String
- Hot glue
- Chopsticks
- Scissors
Step 1: Into the Design Thinking
The main purpose of this project is to find ways to recycle plastic in a fun way and this is what I came up with..
Hello, my name is Hans Seemann CastaƱeda and I decided to build a food and water station for the birds that come to my backyard every morning. Every day when I wake up I always see birds eating our dog's food from his bowl, which he totally hates. I wanted to make them their own station on the trees, that way they can eat real bird food without disturbing or bothering our dog. The station will consist of 2 stands, one having bird food and the other having water. This station will be hung from a tree branch that will be supported by a string that will be tied up.
Interview
I wanted to make sure that the questions were open-ended because it wouldn't help a yes or a no. I had to be as clear as possible with my questions like for example How do you use plastic in your everyday life? How do you recycle your plastic? When was the last time you used plastic? Are you capable of not using plastic for a whole day? What material could we use instead of plastic? Do you reuse your plastic for other activities or purposes? etc.
The Basics of the Station
I am building this food and water station with nothing but materials you probably have in your house, and won't take you more than 30 minutes to make! This food and water station will be guaranteed to attract birds to your backyard and will have them happy every morning. This station is refillable and it is very easy to add food and water. Every 2-3 weeks make sure to change the water and add more food (depending on how many birds visit you) since contaminated water can harbor unhealthy concentrations of bacteria from feces or shed feathers that cause avian diseases.
The 6 Steps We Need to Build This Station
Step 1: Get a big bottle from any drink that is empty.
Step 2: Cut the bottle in half using an Exacto knife.
Step 3: Glue the buttons of the bottle together.
Step 4: Using a knife cut small holes in the sides and insert the chopsticks inside.
Step 5: Cut two more holes at the top of the bottle.
Step 6: Wrap a string around the two holes we made at the top of the bottle.
