My dad has a bike chain key holder and I wanted to make one myself. In this guide I will show you how to make your own bike chain key holder without any special tools.

Materials

For this project you will need:

1) A bike chain. Buy here.

2) A hammer.

3) A nut or another metal piece with a hole in it (as you can see in the picture).

4) A screw or a nail which is thinner than the pins of the chain.

5) A key ring. Buy it here.

*6) If you have a chain tool the process will be much simpler and you won't need numbers 2, 3, 4. Can be bought here.

Splitting

First count the number of links you want, it must be a double number, I recommend splitting 10 or 8 cause the make the coolest shapes. Put the pin of the last link on the nut or on the metal piece hold the screw on it and hammer hard. This is the most difficult step and might take some time to get it but keep trying. When the pin is almost completely out, stop and split the chain with your hands.

*Be careful on your fingers.

** if you have the chain tool just split the chain where you want.

Reconnecting

After splitting the chain you now have to parts, take the one that is going to be your key holder and connect one edge to another.

Hammer the pin into its original position and add your key ring.
