Belt Pouch From Leather Scraps
In this Instructable I will explain how to make a leather belt pouch from leather scraps.
Supplies
Supplies:
- Leather scraps
- Rivets
- Snaps
- Thread
Tools:
- Hammer/mallet
- Needle
- Other desired leatherworking tools
Create a Pattern
To begin I drew up a grid of 1in x 1in squares on a regular piece of printer paper. For the front of the pouch I outlined a 3in x 2in rectangle, as shown above. I followed with the back, which is 5in x 4in. I then added the sides, which were 1in x 2.5 in, but I later trimmed these, so 2-inch will probably be sufficient. After I cut these out I realized I had forgotten the bottom, so I added this on. The bottom was 1in x 4in. I have attached the original pattern-grid so that it is easier and you won't need to draw it up yourself, but it doesn't include the bottom piece, so you would need to draw that in.
After all the pieces were cut out, I taped them together to see how it would look in leather.

Assemble Scraps
I picked some pieces that I thought would be nice for the front and cut them down into rectangle-y shapes so they were easier to work with. I arranged them so that they would fit the pattern and marked the back of the leather so as to not lose the shape. Then I trimmed it down to size. I poked holes where the pieces touched all around the edges. Then I sewed the pieces together with an X-pattern stitch. I did this to the back as well. The sides and bottom were small enough to use a single piece of leather, so I left those alone.
Sew the Pieces Together
For this step I simply stitched the pieces together with the same X-pattern stitch as before. (P.S. Later I added another piece to the back so that when folded over the front it's longer. I included a picture of this.)
Forming
I soaked the whole pouch in warm water for about ten minutes. After I took it out again, I let it sit for another ten minutes and then started forming. I squished a few pieces of wood inside of the pouch to get it to take shape, then stood it up and let it dry completely.
Straps & Snaps
I cut two strips of leather 1 inch wide and about 2 inches long. I rounded the edges of these and then poked holes in both ends. I also poked holes in the back of the pouch. Using rivets, I attached the straps to the back as shown above. Next I used a 4-piece snap on the front flap.
