Beautiful Cardboard Stone Fireplace Diy Step to Make Yourself
Hi, During covid I decided to get breast cancer. So I could go anywhere. So me and my loving husband made this fireplace. Perfect for thanksgiving and especially Christmas if you don't have a fireplace chimney for Santa.
Supplies
Large cardboard, measuring tape, caulking glue, lots of different brown paints just add darker brown or white to change colors, gray paint, can use plaster for more detail, long cardboard hubby got from work ?, 1 1/2" screws, drill, jigsaw, 32" tv
Beginning of My Fireplace
I made this beautiful fireplace last year for the holidays. I started with 2 large 5x10 3/4" thick cardboard. The front piece is 56". tv is 29" across and added 12"s on each side. I cut an additional 2 13" wide pieces for the sides. I then screwed them together with 1 1/2" screws I laid the cardboard on the floor traced out the tv and cut it out with a corrugated cardboard cutter I love this thing only $10 at amazon.
The Rock Phase
I painted all the large cardboard gray. Whatever pieces I had left I used for the rocks. I just took a pencil and made weird shapes. Then my beautiful assistant my Husband cut them out with the jigsaw. I placed them in like a Tetris game. Traced them and took them off. Then put caulking glue on the back and then replaced them. You will have to make custom rocks too. I just ripped pieces of paper until I got the right shape. then traced it onto the scrap cardboard and it got glued too. I then painted them gray then I painted them lots of different brown colors. I had to put 40 different layers. If you don't like the color just paint over it will get lost in the layers. You can even use plaster for the textured effect. The bottom piece of cardboard was 12" wide same size as the fireplace length.
Everything Else
I cut a thinner piece of cardboard for the inside. We just glued smaller pieces of cardboard in the inside and then screwed it on. My husband found 2 weird long square rectangle boxes from work. We used stain on them and they came out fabulous. Place a larger piece of thick cardboard on top screwed that into the sides.
Add the Tv for the Fireplace
We then put the fireplace into the hole. Lots of tv channels have fireplace movies. I know there are dvds you can used to. You can tack up stocking. I placed some vases to make it look more real. Everyone freaked out when they saw it. It was fun to make. Oh by the way get your mammogram today. I am still going through surgeries but I am Cancer Free and grateful for every day. Thanks everyone Jerrianne
