Beachy Low Maintenance Backyard Fire Pit Tutorial

I started by sticking a stake in the middle of my current “fire pit”, tying a rope to it and going in a big circle around the whole pit with a can of spray paint. I measured the paths using the “width” of the landscape fabric I had on hand. And decided to do a path from my driveway (along the side of the house/our little garden) to converge with the path at my deck and then go on to the fire pit. And then, I removed ALL of the sod.

Landscapers Fabric Down and Now Add Sand

With the sod removed I covered all of it with landscape fabric and then (fortunately for me and my poor back) my neighbor happened to notice and also have a new toy he loved to use. He brought his tractor over and hauled the sand for me.

Finished and Low Maintenance

There are some real cool things about this fire pit that I absolutely love. Mow it is awesome because I can go right over all of the edges so NO WEED WACKING. But I have to be sure that the mower blows the grass out and away from the pit of course. I love taking my shoes off on hot summer days and walk in the sand and pretend I'm at the beach!
