Battle Lantern

So I used to be an electrician in the Navy, and one day my chief told me to throw this battle lantern out while we were cleaning out some lockers. Originally these would have 2 large lantern batteries in them, but I don't have any of those. I also don't need this thing to last for days, so I'm just going to use the batteries I have lying around. This project is a bit of a gag, but I think it's going to be funny to have a working battle lantern lol!

Battle lantern, 9v battery (I used a 9v adapter with 6 rechargeable AAs), 9v battery lead, wire strippers and crimps, 2 eyelet crimps.

My wires were a bit thin, so I stripped twice the length I needed and folded the wire over itself before twisting the exposed portion (Pic 1)

These exposed wire ends are then crimped tight (Pic 2)

Unscrew the four screws on the front of the face plate. Next we need to figure out where the positive and negative wires go. Notice that the piece on the right of the first picture has a positive and negative wire coming off the contact points in the middle. we can trace that to the contact points in the housing and up to the bus bars.

Now that we know what goes where we can simply install our leads in contact with the original ones as seen in picture 2.

Now the battery is clipped into its adapter and we can close this thing up.

Tip: If you are worried about gremlins, now is the time to put an Army guy in there.

Put the face plate back on and enjoy your heavy, large inconvenient, unnecessarily red light with its new diminished battery capacity!
