Basic CAM Assembly

For this project I made a small CAM assembly which translates rotational movement in one axis into new movement.

Supplies

PLA filament, 3D printer, Fusion 360.

I started with the pre-made pieces supplied for the class and assembled that together to create the base of the design. I then decided that my motion would represent clay 3D printing- a tube that goes vertically up and down representing the nozzle and an open cylinder spinning representing that piece being printed. I modeled these seperatly, as well as the rotating shapes which would cause this motion. Lastly, I extruded out parts of the pieces that had large flat areas to save on material and reduce printing time.

Tolerance Test

I did a tolerance test with two pieces to check my measurements for both sliding components and press fit components. Both tests went well so I proceeded to printing the full thing.

Final Print

The final print was very tricky to assemble. While it does move, it stutters a lot and doesn't quite achieve the desired effect. I think in order to get this right, I need to do more tests other than the tolerance, such as looking at the friction of the material with this level of surface contact.

(Also, my apologies for the lack of picture, I've genuinely cant find where I put my printed final product)
