At our family barbeques there is always plenty of delicious meat. But it is easy to forget to have the veg.

We have made these sweet/bell pepper BBQ Frogs many times which are a lot of fun to make, look great and are super tasty when grilled.

Even more important it encourages kids to eat their vegetables.

Supplies

Sweet/Bell Peppers

A knife

Toothpicks

Pepper corns

*** IMPORTANT - ALWAYS BE CAREFUL USING A KNIFE, AND ASK AN ADULT FOR ASSISTANCE IF YOU ARE A CHILD.

· Wash your hands.

· Get out your packet of sweet/bell peppers and a knife.

· Wash the pepper.

· Look at your pepper and decide what side is going to be the main body of the frog.

· Using the knife, cut out 1/3 from the bottom of the pepper. This will be the underside of your frog.

· Keep the 1/3 you cut out handy if you are doing more than one frog for decoration later.

· Cut around the pepper stalk and pull it out.

· Very carefully cut off the white parts on the inside of the pepper.

· Put the stalk and the white parts in the bin.

Back Legs

Read these next instructions carefully before doing them, as they are quite precise. Be careful the pepper can easily break so take your time and use the picture above to help visualise it.

Starting on either the left or right of the pepper start to create your pepper frogs back leg. We start by cutting in the centre, heading downwards, cut a big curve, and then cutting the feet/flippers in a semicircle. You can add toes it you are feeling extra creative.

Then bring your knife out again and cut down arching towards the front. This is going to be the back of the front legs.

Look at the shape we cut out in the picture above to get a better idea.

Pull out the excess and throw it away.

Front Legs

Now all you need to do is finish the front legs, chop along the front of the pepper where the frogs chin will be and then down to create a front foot.

Repeat the last two steps to create the rear and front legs on the other side of the pepper.

Eyes

Now to create the eyes, stick a toothpick into the pepper where one of your frogs eyes are going to be placed.

Move the toothpick around to form a small hole.

Place a pepper granule in the new hole and push it in so it sticks.

Repeat on other side.

Stripes

If you are making more than one pepper frog for your family, then get the 1/3 cut from a different colour frog and cut out 3 thin strips.

Place these along the back to give each frog a unique identity and add more colour and character to your frogs.

Ready to Be Put on the Barbeque

Your pepper frog is done.

Do a couple of them because a plateful of frogs looks amazing and make sure everyone sees them before you send them to their doom on your BBQ grill. 😁🐸🐸🐸

Grilled peppers are super sweet and tasty and make a great accompaniment to your barbeque meat.
