Awesome Jet Paper Airplane

Awesome Jet Paper Airplane!

I came up with this jet airplane design and it seems to fly quite well and look good. It has an unusual "stork-like" nose that opens up during flight. The wings can be adjusted to provide various amounts of lift and it has good balance for gliding long distances.

Please watch the video to fill in the gaps in some of the steps, as it will explain some of the diagrams and folds better.

It is relatively easy to build... so let's begin!

Main Wing 1st Fold

The first step is to take a 8.5 x 11" piece of paper and fold it in half to form a mid-line crease. You then take the top of the paper and fold 2 triangles into the middle (see diagrams) to create the 1st main wing fold for the front of the plane.

Main Wing 2nd Fold

Next you need to create another fold for the main wing, similar to the first. You fold each side over to the middle (along the red lines) to make the 2nd wing fold.

Back Wings

The back of the plane has wings that widen out more than the front. To do this, first bend the nose over at the half-way point and back, to create a crease horizontally across the middle of the body. This will be a reference line for how to bend the back wings. Then open up the back of the plane wings by folding along the red lines. The red lines go from the middle of the plane to the back edge of the wings.

When the wings are opened up it should look something like the last diagram.

Nose

The nose is produced by folding back half way, then front again. The first fold of the nose back is along the middle of the plane (the same crease produced in the previous step). When you fold the tip of the nose back forward again, it should be at the red line in the diagram that is exactly where the creases in the back wings are as wide as the nose piece (see diagram and video as it will make more sense).

Last Wing Folds (see Video)

Finally, watch the video to see how the wings are bent over. You can keep them parallel to the bottom of the plane, as seen in the video, or give a slight angle to create more lift.

The tips of the wings are bent up along with a cut in the middle of the plane to form 3 vertical stabilizers. Finally, the back of the wings can be slightly bent up to create elevators at the back of the wings to give the plane some more lift as well.

Have fun with this design!
