Adorable Alien + UFO DIY Tutorial
Hello, I’m Zofia! I decided to make an Instructable showing you how to make your own adorable alien & a cute space ship. These can be used as toys or cute decorations, I hope you enjoy!
Underline - The lightbulb buttons (show all & hide selected)
Italic - Shapes
Note: In this Instructable I’m gonna assume you know how to 3D print your projects, if you don’t, you might want to look up a tutorial :)
Supplies
To complete this Instructable, you will need:
-computer
-TinkerCAD
-3D printer + print
-sand paper (optional)
-basic knowledge of TinkerCAD (I will do my best to make this Instructable beginner friendly)
-you will need to know how to print your TinkerCad design
The Body
Start by adding a Sphere. Change its size and color. It can be different than the one on the picture, depending on what body shape you want your alien to have.
The Head
To make the head for the alien, you will need to add a Paraboloid and a Half Sphere. Flip the Paraboloid and put the Half Sphere on top of it. Make sure to adjust their sizes and angles. Select both of them, change their color to match the color of the body, and place them on top of the body.
Note: The head doesn't have to be touching the body, because we will be adding a neck.
Making It Fit
Duplicate the Paraboloid, make the duplicate wider and make it a hole, instead of a solid. Select the original Paraboloid, and press the Hide Selected button. Group the Half Sphere with the hole. Press the Show All button. Group the original Paraboloid with the Half Sphere, making the head complete.
The Neck
Add a Cylinder, change its size, color and the amount of sides it has to the max. Place it on the body, under the head (like shown above).
The Legs
In this step you will be making the legs. To make it easier, you can duplicate the neck (by doing so, you don't have to change the amount of sides & color). Place it where the legs should be. Change its size so the proportions look good, and duplicate it. It should look similar to the picture.
The Feet
To make the feet you will need to add a Sphere. Change its size, color and amount of sides, and after it looks the way you want it to, you can duplicate it. Place the feet in their spots. You can use the align tool to align each leg with the foot.
The Arms
To make the hands you will need to add a Sphere and change its size, amount of sides and color. Make it look similar to the picture above, then duplicate it and rotate each of the arms.
The Hands
Add a Sphere, change its color, size and amount of sides. Duplicate it and attach each of the hands to an arm.
The Eyes
Add a Sphere, change its color and size. Change its amount of sides, then place it where one of the eyes would be. Duplicate it, move & rotate each eye. It should look similar to the picture.
Antennas
Add a Cylinder and a Sphere. Place the Sphere on top of the Cylinder, you can use the align tool to make sure they are perfectly aligned. Then, group the two together, and place the antenna on the alien’s head, you can also change the size. Duplicate it and rotate each of the antennas. it should look similar to the picture.
Grouping It and Making the Feet Flat
In this step you will be making the bottoms of the feet flat so the alien can stand. Add a Box and make sure its a hole. Change its size, and place it in the lower part of the feet, so its touching. It should look similar to the picture above. Then, group everything together.
Print It
Print your Tinkercad design. Once you have it printed, it should look similar to the picture above. You will need to get rid of the supports. I also used some sand paper to make it a bit smoother.
Creating the Spaceship - the Center
Add the shape called Sphere, then add more sides to it and change its size.
The Ring
Add the shape called Torus, as shown in the picture. Then, reshape it, and attach it to the base of the ship; it should end up looking like the second picture.
The Bottom
Add the shape called the Paraboloid. Duplicate it, then change its setting into a hole. Flip it, and align it perfectly, so that it looks like the second picture. Then, group the two, and expand the shape to match the size of the ship. Attach it to the ship.
Details
Add the shape called the Half Sphere. Place it on the spaceship. Duplicate it, and move it. Repeat doing that, until it looks like the last image.
Printing
Before you print it, group all the parts together. Once you have your space ship printed, get rid of the supports.
Finished!
Congratulations, you have completed this Instructable.
