Adjustable Wire Word Ring

Hello!

In this Instructable I will be teaching you how to make an adjustable word ring out of jewelry wire. Wire word forming to me is a very valuable skill. With it, you can make rings, bracelets, necklaces, ornaments, and so much more! That being said, it is not necessarily an easy skill to obtain. If you start to feel discouraged when trying to make your ring, it's okay! Just take a deep breath and try again.

So... Let's get started!

Supplies

For this Instructable you need

  • Wire
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Paper/notebook
  • Pen
  • Hammer (optional)

Write Out Word

For a ring I would suggest no more than a four letter word, because the more letters you do, the larger the ring will be. If you are making this ring as a gift for someone, but that someone's name is over four letters you could always make a bracelet instead or do their initials. Once you have decided on the word or name that will be on your ring write it out on a sheet of paper in cursive.

Map Out Guide

On the word you just wrote draw arrows to symbolize the direction that you will be bending the wire in. This makes the actual "forming" of the word much easier.

Cut Wire

Use wire cutters to cut a piece of wire. I like to make my piece plenty big so that I don't need to worry about running out of space.

Form Your Word

Now take your piece of wire and start forming the word. Use the needle nose pliers to help you. You may not get it right the first time but that's okay! Just get a new piece of wire.

Hammer (optional)

If you want to experiment with hammering the wire, then now is the time to do that (I like to hammer the part of the word that will be touching the skin so that it is nice and smooth). If not, move onto the next step.

Form Circle and Make a Loop

Bend your wire into a circle, then cut the excess wire off of one end, then bend and make a loop. Once you have the loop open it and slip the other side of wire in. Close the loop.

Repeat

Do the same thing with the other end of wire. This makes the ring adjustable and able to fit on a bigger or smaller finger.

P.S

Pardon my bandaid. I smacked my finger against a baseboard while vacuuming :(
