Acacia Ceiling Light

Sometimes you can find in stores what you need/like or it doesn't fit your needs and you have to improvise with things/tools you have at hand.

I needed a ceiling light in bedroom and I could find anything that I liked at a good price so I had to do it my self.

This project is not hard to make you don't need special skills for it, but you need some power tools ( you can make it by hand, but it will take you longer).

You will need the following:

-one piece(trunk) of wood (hard or soft both types work) size depending on how big you need/want

-spot light(s), I found mine cheap at a discount in a hardware store a box of 10 around 20 EURO/USD box

-electric hand saw ( one that can cut at an angle)

-electric/hand planner

-drilling equipment to fit a saw drill bit you'll need to ease your work

-wood chisels or router

-sand papers different grits and/or power tool equipped with it

-natural fibers rope

-glue: epoxy, wood, fast type....

The few pictures I manage to made I hope they explain better than I can.

Always use protective gear!

Step 1

First step after finding the right piece of wood was to clean, cut it to size and give wanted shape. Here I used electric hand saw and planner to shape.

Second step is to hollow and drill to size. For drilling you can find the size on spot lights box, some have the size mark directly on spot support.

You need to hollow as much as you can so you can fit spot supports, they have 2 springs that need to stay flat or they will pop out.

Fixing step: I had to fix it because the wood was still green and it cracked when I bring it to house were it was warm (it stood few days near radiator).

Last step I am out of pictures (sorry), you get spot supports in placed make wire connections, add rope or chain for hanging, put spot to place, hang your masterpiece and enjoy.
