A Rainbow of Pancakes
This is a recipe that I always enjoyed as a kid. I remember my Mum using food colouring to encourage my sister and I to take an interest in cooking. We loved the colours and I am sure that your kids will love them too. Get them to help with the measuring and choosing the colours. Have fun!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons (45 grams) butter, melted
- Food colouring
Dry Ingredients
Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
Make a well in the centre
Add the Wet Ingredients
Pour milk, egg and melted butter into the 'well' of the flour mixture
Mix well
Separate the Batter
Separate the batter into different bowls, depending on the number of colours you are going to make
Colour the Different Mixtures
Choose your colours
I decided to make the colours of the rainbow (red, yellow, green, orange, purple and blue)
Colour each mixture the colour you want, using small drops of food colouring at a time
Grease the Pan
Heat up the frying pan to a medium temperature and grease it with either butter or oil
I like to use oil because it doesn't burn as easily as butter does
Cook the Pancakes
Pour the batter into the pan, making the pancakes the size that you want
When you begin to see bubbles appear in the batter, flip the pancake and cook the other side
Enjoy
Stack your colours to match a rainbow!
Top with your preferred toppings
Enjoy!
