5 Step Chili
On chilly fall/ winter days, a warm bowl of this classic chili is perfect! Be sure to make it the day before so it has plenty of time to flavor overnight.
Makes about 5 servings (Our pot looks really full because I tripled it for our big family and to make plenty of leftovers! Just to clarify again: the amount of ingredients listed will only make 5 servings.)
Supplies
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 can (16 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (16 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup water
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp garlic salt (or to taste)
Shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Let's Get Started...
In a large pot, heat the ground beef and break up with a spoon. Cook until browned. Drain off grease. Add the chopped onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook until tender, about 5 min.
Da Beans and Da Sauce!
Add the beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and honey. Then add the water.
Spice It Up!
Now add the chili powder, cumin, oregano, and garlic salt. (Note: If you want your chili spicier, add another tsp. or more chili powder.)
Simmer...
Simmer, covered, for an hour on low heat. Stir occasionally. Let the pot cool, then put it in the fridge overnight.
Voila!
You're done! Serve the next day topped with cheese. Enjoy!
