π DIY Mini Medieval Manuscript Scrolls - With Wax Seals and Illuminated Printable!
Although the two terms are interchangeable, a manuscript roll was vertically opened and oriented, whereas a scroll opened horizontally. Horizontal scrolls were usually wound around a central baton or wooden rod called the umbilicus, with knobs on one or both ends. The use of wax seals began in the Middle Ages and they were added to a document to prove that the handwritten signature thereon wasnβt forged.
This miniature DIY antique printable has illuminated Medieval font text on an old parchment background. It creates a set of realistic vertical and horizontal miniature scrolls! Beautiful to look at and oh-so-lovely when tied up with twine, leather cord and real mini wax seals! ππβοΈ
In this step-by-step DIY video tutorial below, I show the process of creating these enchanting scrolls, binding them and sealing them with mini stamps and REAL wax βοΈ

Before Cutting the Printable
This double-sided printable gives the back of the scrolls the look of weathered parchment. An inkjet printer certainly makes the colours shine and gives a true parchment feel, but a laser printer can definitely also do the job.
Before cutting out the scrolls, spray them with two thin coats of clear gloss aerosol lacquer. This helps to seal and protect them as you roll and unroll them.
